V2L
V2l is an abbreviation for Vehicle to Load, or vehicle to charge. This refers to the technology whereby the electricity from the electric car can be used to use and/or charge other electric products such as your phone, laptop and/or camping lamp. So this is not to be confused with the acronym V2G, which stands for Vehicle to grid, where power from the electric car is supplied to the energy grid.
Which cars have V2L?
Cars equipped with the V2L capability include:
- Atto 3.
- BYD Seal.
- Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai IONIQ 6 and KONA Electric
- Kia Niro EV, Kia EV6, KIA EV9
- MG ZS (2022), MG 4, MG 5 (2023 model) and MG ZS Marvel R (from June 2023)
- Volvo EX90
This means that these cars can charge bidirectionally, simply put, charging can go both ways. Looking for a bi-directional charging station? You can contact us for that too.
V2L adapter
Of course, if your car supports V2L, that does not mean it is equipped with a socket as standard. To make use of the vehicle to load application, you need a V2L adapter. This ensures that the correct amount of current and voltage is converted from the type 2 plug to usually a schuko socket. In our product range, you will already find the first V2L adapters on the market with various options. Because the adapters have a type 2 connection, you do not need to look specifically for a V2L adapter for the Ioniq 5 or a V2L adapter for MG. Note that the Nissan leaf also features V2L, but has a type 1 plug and is therefore not suitable for these adapters.
